Our Origin

Founded by Giuseppe and Ilda Arnoldi in 1937, Arnoldi's Cafe originally opened its doors on East Cota Street before moving to our permanent home at 600 Olive Street in 1940, when the bocce courts and current building were built. Giuseppe himself quarried the local Santa Barbara stone used to construct the very building where you dine today. For over eight decades, our garden and bocce ball courts have served as a vibrant gathering place for locals and visitors from around the world.

The interior of the restaurant remains a tribute to our heritage. The mural of Lago di Como and "Bucky," the Tule Elk who has watched over the bar since 1958, are quintessential parts of the Arnoldi's atmosphere. As of August 2024, Arnoldi's Cafe is under new ownership, dedicated to honoring these traditions and ensuring the legacy of this landmark establishment continues to thrive for many years to come.
